Radio station silenced in alleged police abuse reports
06/20/09 10:02
Last June 8, Peru's Transportation and Communication Ministry cancelled the license of Radio La Voz de Bagua, a radio station based in Utcubamba province in the northern region of the country.
The Ministry cited technical issues with the radio station's equipment as the reason for the license's cancellation, but the managers of the radio stations called this a lie. Three days prior to the cancellation, dozens of people were killed during a confrontation between police forces and indigenous groups. The station had served as a medium for protesters to report the alleged abuses of the police force.
