The previous laws in Peru had inhabitants of the Amazon and protesters alike worried about the land's safety. Those laws would have allowed the use of the land for drilling and logging.
Peru's government is now working on a bill that will repeal those laws. It is just a waiting game now to see if Peru's congress will revoke the laws.
Something had to be done, for there were previous conflicts over the laws. Thirty people had died in these conflicts.
