Slump Snapped 6-Day Rally

As China's stock market plunged 9 perent, the beiggest fall in a decade it sparked a global sellof in riskier assets and in particular those emerging markets such as Latin America. Because of this Lima's stock exchange ended the session 1.92 percent lower. It was the steepest drop since December.

Open Doors and Windows Reduces Airborn Contagian

Eight hospitals hae been study and it is concluded that by opening windows and doors it provides maximum natural ventialtion and thereby lowering the risk of airborne contagion. Even at the lowest of wind speeds, natural ventilation exceeded mechanical ventilation and worked better in facilites build more than 50 years ago.

Pilar Replacedby Castro

After Pilar Mazzetti resigned the position of Secretary of Interior on Friday amid a scandal a new Secretary of Interior has been appointed and Luis Alva Castro is her successor. Hopefully this appointment will end a political crises caused by Pilar.

Bush Defies Congress

A free trade agreement between the U.S. and Peru will help to fight poverty and President Bush has reaffirmed his support of this agreement which was signed with Peru last year. The Democrats in Congress are in total opposition of this agreement as analysts point out thousands of Peruvian farmers will be ruined by the FTA.

Attacked By Rabid Bat

Martin Moroco Turpo, 29, was reportedly attacked by a bat 15 days ago and has died after being bitten on his left ear. The unfortunate part is that he waited until just 5 days ago to go to the hospital for treatment and there was little anyone could do.

Bush to Attend APEC Summit

In 2008 Peru will be hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and President Bush has confirmed his attendance to Peru's Alan Garcia. During a 30 minute telephone call it was also discussed about promptly ratifying the proposed free trade agreement in the coming months.

1989 Slaying Investigation Re-Opened

President Alan Garcia will try to reopen an investigation in a slaying which occurred in 1989. A reporter from The Tampa Tribune, Todd Smith, was abducted from an airfield while investigating ties between Shining Path rebels and drug traffickers.

Peru Reopens 2026 Bonds

Peru reopened 2026 on the local market and sold $87.9 million at a price which was above par. The demand for the bonds was 827 million soles. The reason it sold above par was because it has been a good issue for the government.

Pilar Mazzetti Resigns

Interior Minister, Pilar Mazzetti was accused of failing to get a discount for 469 new police cars. She is also under investigation for alledgedly buying almost 60 ambulances that were in very poor condition. She is the first minister to resign from the new government.
